Painting Lessons

I believe we are always learning. Life is like one big beautiful classroom. All we have to do is pay attention. As we do, then every moment, even the frustrating ones in our lives become opportunities for growth.

My lesson this morning was taught to me through a painting. I have been working on and off on this little painting for a while now. I had this beautiful sunrise image and was adding a few trees in the foreground. Today I picked it up and began to work on it again. Each brush stroke was deliberate and slow. I wanted to get it just right.

Well, my hand got a little heavy and before you know it the sunrise was just barely visible behind the dense forest I had created. It had become a heavy and dark image. The airy, bright colors that I had been so drawn to create were covered in mud. Ahhhh!!!

Realizing I could not simply undo what had been done, I tried to think of my options. Could I “save” this painting? After all, I had spent hours working on this piece. But, my heart was no longer in it.

I decided it was more important to let go of this image where it was and to begin again. I knew I needed to lighten it up.

Filling my brush with vibrant colors I quickly recreated the sunrise that was in my heart. This image is now complete. It is where I am right now and that is perfect!

So today’s painting lesson is “Let Go and Lighten Up!”

Another beautiful painting! I wonder if this is where your road leads to – if you look at the road painting I’m sure you can just see this place on the horizon.
